On the 1st of May 2006, two leading suppliers to the government and mining sector joined hands for the benefit of all customers, suppliers, staff and shareholders. Cape Gate (Pty) Ltd and Mr Edwin Phala (MD of Alcon Marepha (Pty) Ltd) have formed a joint venture company for the production and supply of various stranded wire products to the Mining, Governmental, Telecommunications and Agricultural sectors.
Mr Edwin Phala is the Managing Director of Alcon Marepha, a company owned primarily by Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDI’s). Alcon Marepha is well known as a supplier of quality Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) and aluminium wire utilised for electrification and overhead power delivery.

The new company, CAPE GATE MAREPHA (Pty) LIMITED officially commenced business operations on 1st May 2006 under the chairmanship of Mr Phala. The venture is structured in such a way that economic substance takes precedence over form, thereby facilitating access to the mainstream economy for more of our country’s HDI’s. Not only will this venture bring about major advantages to all stakeholders in the value chain, but it also aligns itself with several Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment objectives as targeted by government.
